Bloomsburg Downs Kutztown in Field Hockey
KUTZTOWN — Kristi Ney's (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) goal just over two minutes into overtime lifted the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Kutztown University Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies, three-time defending NCAA Division II champions, and the Golden Bears battled through 70 minutes of scoreless field hockey before Ney scored the game winner amongst a fury of action in front of the Kutztown goal with 12:51 left in overtime. Freshman Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) was credited with the assist on the play.
Bloomsburg goalie Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman) stopped nine shots on the afternoon to post her second shutout of the young season.
The Huskies, 2-0, 1-0 in the PSAC, host non-conference foe Philadelphia University Sunday at 1 p.m.
